Mr John Smiley is the founding member of the group, and has provided musical direction and arrangements for the group’s repertoire over the past 18 years. With a career as music teacher, choral instructor and performer, John is a highly trained vocalist and musician who leads the group on the Indian harmonium.
Australian born Lyndon De Valle is a multi-faceted musician, with a western classical as well as traditional Indian and jazz background, mastering a variety of instruments - the guitar being his current instrument of choice.
British born Kevin Fitzgerald has played guitar with MOJ since it’s beginnings in 1992, and also studies the Indian string instrument of sarod on occasion in Mumbai with Pandit Brij Narayan.
Tony Carbone plays the soprano saxophone with passion, and has performed with MOJ for over 10 years.
Although of South indian origin, Kannan Subrahmanyan has embraced the iconic Australian indigenous digeridoo and also provides additional vocals.
Indian born Vishamber Pujari provides a unique feel to the percussion section of MOJ on his dholak and also adds vocal strength to the line-up.
French born Jean-Michel Huet supplies a large variety of percussion to MOJ, including chimtar, cymbals, windchime, shakers, and additional vocal support.
Indian born Rishi Nicolai spent the latter part of his youth in Australia - he provides percussion on the tabla, an Indian pitched double drum.
South African born Vinod Mistri has gained his experience playing the percussion instrument of dholak over more than 10 years with MOJ, and greatly enjoys this essential rhythmic contribution to the world-music influenced line-up.
Of Estonian descent, Peter Aerfeldt has been a strong and consistent male vocalist with the group since it’s beginnings., and has taken on the role of group co-ordinator for this Asian tour.
Richard Kennett is of Polish descent and commenced his singing career as vocalist with MOJ in 1995 - he has been a steadfast contributor to the group ever since.
Nepalese born Sobik Sharma joined MOJ recently, providing a new flavour to the group’s repertoire, as a vocalist and on the harmonium.
Danish born Lene Jeffrey has been a vocalist with the group since it’s inception, and in addition to choral work has learnt classical Indian vocals - is currently studying a ‘Masters in Music Therapy’, at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Russian born Karuna Kourkova is female vocalist with MOJ and is currently studying a ‘Bachelor of Music in Performance’ at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, as mezzo-soprano.
Having recently settled in Australia from Nepal, Sukriti Sharma adds a unique eastern flavour to the female vocalist line-up.
Swiss born Anneliese Buff, provides vocal support the the female line-up, and is also the group’s on-tour medical expert.
